On or Upon?

She depends upon her father for support.
She depends on her father for support.

Both the sentences are grammatically correct. On and upon can be used interchangeably. Upon makes the statement a bit more formal. However, there are some cases where only upon can be used.

For example:

  1. Rains will be upon us in a month’s time
  2. The meeting depends upon the arrival of the flight
